Abdominal Liposuction

Abdominal liposuction is a procedure frequently being used by healthy and toned women to rid stubborn fat bulges in the stomach area. Tumescent liposuction is a newer technique used in abdominal liposuction resulting in less bruising, less swelling and a quicker recovery than traditional methods of liposuction. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses ultrasound rather than mechanical action to loosen fat before removal. This technique is usually used to reduce larger areas of the body, such as the posterior hip, the back, and breasts, however it also is frequently used in the traditional areas, such as the thighs and abdomen.

Abdominal liposuction can be effective for those -male and female- who have a difficult time losing those last belly pounds that reasonable diet and exercise can get rid of. Some of these patterns of fat storage may be hereditary and will respond less favorably to these conventional approaches. As a side note, this approach is also sometimes associated with tummy tuck because the skin will not always tighten up.

Abdominal Tumescent Liposuction

A common approach to abdominal reduction is tumescent liposuction. This lends itself for the sensitive areas, with less pain and quicker recovery. This method of tumescent liposuction involves an insertion of anesthesia and other medications. This solution causes the layer to swell up; then the cosmetic surgeon can enter the area and remove even deeper fat layers. The loss of blood is less than other methods. Perhaps as little as a tablespoon. This procedure does not require any major sedation, as the areas are already numb to the local anesthesia. Moreover, these incisions are very small. the contents in this solution also prevent tissue dehydration. Other medications prevent swelling and pain. A small suction known as a cannula can penetrate these layers and reach the lowest levels of fat. An extension for suction is added to this cannula and helps to draw out these deep pockets of adipose tissue.

Most patients will not feel any major discomfort until approximately 10 hours after the procedure. This procedure is also done on an outpatient basis. Its important to not exercise or engage in strenuous activity. Always follow your plastic surgeons advice as well. The results of the liposuction procedure can be expected to peak at around the 3-6 month points.

Abdominal liposuction is not a weight loss solution, but rather an adjunct to diet and exercise. It important to reach a stable weight point in the months leading up to your decision for liposuction. The toning of the underlying muscles is also the key to getting the results you want. Its important to keep the exercises for toning that belly region.

Some women have abdominal cavity fat; it’s a reality that some fats can only be lost through extensive dieting and not all "stomach" liposuction will actually be effective at all areas. A consultation regarding abdominal liposuction from a board certified cosmetic surgeon is essential. This procedure is not always appropriate. There are some risks. Again, consult with your plastic surgeon.
